FREE ~Primitive FarmHouse Hearts~ Tutorial from ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

Today, I wanted to share a ***NEW*** Tutorial

with all of you called, ~Primitive ~FarmHouse Hearts~!

When making these hearts I tried to think about what fabrics

you would have found in an old FarmHouse and the "Ticking Fabrics"

came to mind! Remember those old blue and white feathered

pillows that your Grandmother used to have? Of coarse,

these "Prim Hearts" would also be cute made from some Homespun fabric

or even an old quilt! Maybe even burlap beings burlap is "hot" right now!

These ~Primitive FarmHouse Hearts~ would be cute displayed

year round in any "FarmHouse" themed home!

Also, great to display for "Valentine's"!

1/28/2012...I made another set of my "FarmHouse Hearts",
only this time I changed the "wording" to read part of 1 Corinthians 13 :4-7!

This time I wanted a more "Country" look so I made the hearts

out of a cute plaid fabric and I added some old buttons that I had!

Today, I wanted to share different ways

to use "Old Windows" in your home decor!

For those of you who follow my Blog,

you know that I love "Old Windows"!

This is an "Old Window" that I repainted and put a mirror in!

Then I made a valance for it and hung it above the window!

I also hung a floral vine on top of the valance!

The first photo above, I found on Pinterest!

I love how the designer of this window made it a multi-

purpose window! She put a shelf on it to set her old canning

jars on! She also, included a chalk board and pictures in her "Old Window"!

Clever idea!

The designer of these "Old Windows" turned them into a cupboard doors!
This would be really cute in a bathroom!

to decorate her window!

I found this "Old Window" on

"Flea Market Makeovers"!
I ~Love~ this idea!

Penny, the designer of this "Chalk Board Window"

redid the frame and used "Chalk Board Paint" to make this

"Old Window"! What a great idea!

I'm not sure exactly which "Chalk Board Paint" that Penny

used on her window but I do know that Rust-Oleum has a chalk board paint!

I read that you don't have to primer over the glass

first before using the "Chalk Board Paint" but some ladies recommend that you do!

I've even seen "Old Windows" used in gardens and flower beds!

Hi, Ladies!

Today, I wanted to talk about "Style" because

"Decorating" is my #1 Love!

First, I must confess, I'm not an Interior Designer

or anything like that, I just love home decor and style!

When my hubby and I had our home built three years ago

we knew what home style we wanted!

We wanted a cross between a Cape Cod & a Farmhouse!

You see these styles are very similar!

A big front porch was a MUST!

I ~Love~ decorating the porch for different Seasons!

When it comes to the inside of our home I like

several different "Styles" from traditional, farmhouse,

country, vintage and prim!

I even have a couple of rooms done in "Shabby Chic"!

I've decided that the one thing that they all have in common (other then traditional)

is "vintage" and/or "old"! I do like "new" mixed in with the "old"!

We have a "Farmhouse" style kitchen and dining room,

other then ours differs from most because I ~Love~ color!

Some of the walls in our kitchen and dining room are painted in "Colonial Red"!

Most traditional farmhouse kitchen are all "white" from the paint

on the walls, to the appliances, to even the dishes!

In a typical farmhouse kitchen you will find some glass cabinet doors or

no cabinet doors,

beadboard and hardwood floors (we chose tile)!

Below is a traditional "Farmhouse" Kitchen that I found on "Pinterest"!

Of coarse this is a newer farmhouse kitchen! I think that the reason

the original farmhouses were all white was because of lack of money and

maybe because of lack of color choices! People had to live so practical back then!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

So, today I ask, what is your "Decorating Style"...

Traditional, Farmhouse, Country, Prim, Vintage,

French Country, Shabby Chic, Victorian, Colonial, Cottage
or something else?

On a Different Note...

Why is it that we parents get to "Inherit" our Children's pets?

Several years back we "Inherited" our daughter's "Grumpy Schnauzer", Sam and

now it seems that we have "Inherited" her "Moody" Cat, Lou Bug!

I don't mind the dog but I thought that I was done with cats in our house!

I DON'T like cats in our house and here is the reason why...

Lou Bug has several bad habits like climbing up on our kitchen

cabinets and then onto our plant shelves!

All in the process, that means that she has been on our counters!

That is a total "YUCK" in my book!

I was hoping that the resin rooster in the photo above would have

crowed and scared the tar out of her! :)

So, needless to say, I can't Wait for our Daughter to take her cat back!

Back in my ~Jeans~ again from ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

No, I didn't go on a diet (I need too)! :)

It's been two weeks today since my surgery

and today is one of those days that I've been waiting for...

it's "back in my jeans day"!

My Doc said that I had to wait two weeks before

wearing ~Jeans~ again!

I've been running around the last couple of weeks in

sweat pants!

I don't know what it is but there is something about

sweat pants (I don't like)!?!?!

I'm strictly a jeans and barefoot type gal!

So, I'm happy to say (other then a few minor issues) I'm

finally feeling like life is getting back to normal!

Now, back to the "Diet" thing!

Beings I've kind of been down with my surgery

I didn't want to start my "Diet" on the 1st like so many of

you have! So, today is another big day for me...it's "D" day!

I need to shed around 20lbs!

Isn't it funny (not really) how 5lbs turns into 10lbs and 10 into 20, etc?

Anyways, I'm planning on getting back into my walking routine,

even though it's going to be a slow process and I won't be able to join my "Zumba"

class for another six to eight weeks!

The one thing that I can do right now is watch what I eat, so that is my plan!

For me that means low carb and high protein! I know what to do and I know

what works for me!

What works best for you?

I hope that all of you are having a wonderful ~Winter Thyme~ day~!

We've been having the most incredible winter weather!

~Angels Among Us~ by ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

Do you believe in Angels?

I wanted to share a couple of stories that happened to our family this Christmas!

Actually, I call them "The Christmas Angels"!

My first story begins about mid-December! This year for Christmas my sweet hubby bought

me a new anniversary ring! (After 30, almost 31 years, my original wedding ring set

is in pretty sad shape!) Anyways, on December 23rd, I stopped in Fred Meyers

to do a little shopping for Christmas and decided to see if my new ring was

in! It was sent off to be resized! It just so happened that it had just arrived! The clerk

handed me my new ring! I took the little pink sapphire ring that my hubby had bought me

for our 25th wedding anniversary and slid it on to my pinky finger of my right hand! Big mistake

because it was way too big for my pinky finger! I had intentions of putting the ring in a safe place once I left the counter! It wasn't until my drive home that I discovered that I didn't have my little pink sapphire ring! Over Christmas weekend I was telling my sister about losing my ring and she said, to call the store that maybe someone had turned the ring in! She reminded me that there are "honest" people in this world! Me, thinking that no one would have turned my ring in, waited four days to call the store! Low and behold, once I described the ring, the lady in customer service said, "I have your ring, someone turned it in"! I wanted to cry!

My other "Christmas Angel" story took place on Christmas Eve Day! My step mom had ran to Walmart for a few last minute things! She said that she had been standing in this really long line! She was in the middle of getting her items checked out when she heard someone say, "Ma'am"! She said that she looked back towards the long line and that no one was talking to her! When all of a sudden, she heard someone say, "Ma'am" again, only this time she looked towards the front of the store and there stood a man in his late thirties, with a red envelope! He handed her the envelope, said "Merry Christmas" and quietly walked away! She said she looked down at the envelope and it said, "Pay it Forward"! She opened the envelope and inside was a Christmas card with $100.00 cash! She asked the clerk if she had seen the man that had just handed her that envelope and the clerk said that she hadn't see any man standing there! My step mom finished paying and walked through the store trying to find the man so that she could thank him for his great generosity! She never could find the man! She went home and told my Father and he told her, "I think you have an Angel"! My step mom and Father are both retired and living on a fixed income and with my Father's terminal cancer there have been a lot of extra expenses, so this money couldn't have come at a better time!

I will warn you, grab your Kleenexes! Ben was taken home on Christmas Day, just a few days after he made these videos! Anyways, towards the end of his video he holds a flash card that says,
Do you believe in Angels or God? I Do.

So, my question to all of you is "Do you believe in Angels" or "God"? Do you have a special "Angel" story?

The great thing is burlap is an inexpensive fabric!

It comes in several different colors for those of you who like color!

You can make Christmas stockings!

You can make ~darling~ pillows!!!

Valances! I may have to put some of these ~darling~ burlap valances in our living room!

They would fit right it with our Country/Farmhouse themed home!

has a great tutorial for making this ~darling~ table runner!

You can even make a ~cute~ wreath out of burlap!

This is another ~darling~ burlap idea from Confessions of a Plate Addict's Blog!

I've seen "Burlap Wreath Tutorials" all over "Pinterest"!

All's you have to do to make one of these ~darling~ Wreaths is string 3" or 4" strips

of burlap onto an un-folded clothes hanger! Once you get the desired burlap strips strung

onto the clothes hanger, bend the hanger to form a circle! Twist the end of the clothes hanger

wires together! Walla...you have a ~darling~ inexpensive Wreath! Embellish your wreath

with things to fit the Season!

Kitchen Towel Plastic Bag Holder ~FREE~ Tutorial from Old Road Primitives...

Hi, Ladies!

I'm back for a second time today!

This time I wanted to share ORP's

Super/Easy/Quick/Fun

***Kitchen Towel Plastic Bag Holder*** Tutorial

with all of you!

I know that a lot of you have upcoming Craft Shows

and these Plastic Bag Holders are great sellers,

not the mention the fact that you can make one up

in about 5 minutes and the supplies are fairly cheap!

Let's get started...

First you will start by measuring the width of your kitchen towel!

My little plaid kitchen towel was 20" wide!

Then you will cut (2) pieces of elastic

half the size, of the width of your kitchen towel!

My kitchen towel was 20", so my (2) pieces of elastic are 10" each!

Starting at one end of your towel you will sew one of

the elastic pieces 1 1/2" from the end of the towel!

Pull the elastic tight as you sew!

Because you will be pulling the elastic tight you will want

to run a few back stitches before starting!

This will hold your elastic in place!

If you have any left over elastic when you finish just trim it off!

This is what the end of the kitchen towel will look like!

Now go ahead and sew the other piece of elastic to the

other end of the towel!

Find the center of one end of the towel!

This is where you will stitch a long piece of jute or matching ribbon

to the towel to form a cute little bow!

This is optional of coarse!

Now, you will go to the other end of the towel

and pin a loop made from jute or matching ribbon

to the (RIGHT SIDES) of the towel, as shown in the photo above!

This will form the hanger for the towel!

Make sure that the tails on the loop are going to get sewn

in when you sew the sides of the towel together!

With RST (RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER)

Sew the towel together by sewing down the sides of the towel!

Turn the kitchen towel RSO (RIGHT SIDES OUT)!

The photo above shows what your hanger will look like

once the towel has been sewn together!

The photo above shows you what the cute little bow will look like!

And the last photo is a photo of the

finished "Kitchen Towel Plastic Bag Holder"!

(Don't look to close, I should have ironed

the towel before I started)!!!

I ~Love~ these plastic bag holders!

These Plastic Bag Holders are great to keep in the pantry,

laundry room, garage, shed or anywhere else

you can think to put one!

This lil' Christmas Mouse would look ~cute~ tucked amongst some pine garland

on a Christmas Wreath or sitting on a Christmas package under a Christmas Tree!

More on Gotta ~Love~ Spray Paint from ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

You all know that one of my "Favorite" things is "Spray Paint"!

I ~Love~ spray paint because you can change the look

of something in a matter of minutes and it's an inexpensive change!

This chair was "Red" until today!

I decided that this "Honey" colored (American Accents) spray paint would

make the chair a better fit for my decor then the "Red" colored chair!

I ~Love~ the American Accents Spray Paints by RustOleum!

You can't buy them just anywhere!

I purchase mine at JoAnn's fabrics!

I always like to tone my spray painted items down a bit with

some sort of stain to give them that ~Wonderful~ "aged" look!

Normally, I use "Brown Shoe Polish"

to "age" my (smaller) items but today I decided to try something new!

It's called, "Minwax Wood-Sheen"!

I purchased it at Walmart!

It is a gel stain!

This stain comes in a couple of colors!

I chose to "age" this chair in "Colonial Walnut"!

You simply wipe in on and wipe it off!

If you want your item to have a little more

"aged" look then you do an extra coat or two until

you get the look that you are going for!

Here is a "Before" shot & "After" shot of my chair!

(Due to the lighting, you can see the "aged" chair better in the close-up photo above!)
You can seal your items with a sealer or clear coat
when you are finished if you would like!
If your item is going to be outside you would
want to seal it for sure!

Today, I also stained a crocheted table runner!

I'm trying to get all of my "Spray Painting" & "Staining"

done while the weather is permitting!

With temps in the mid 60's, I know that my days

for working on these types of projects are numbered!

but when you design patterns you always have to

be several months ahead of the next Holiday
(for those of you who want to get started early)!

Today, I'm going to share three of my ***Newest***

Christmas Patterns with all of you!

Gotta ~Love~ Spray Paint & Shoe Polish (Part 2) from ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

If you've followed my Blog for very long then

you know that there are two things that I ~Love~

Spray Paint & Shoe Polish!

I know that I've shared some these techniques with all of you

in the past! You can click HERE to view one of those postings!
In this posting, I wanted to share some

new items that I've ~Grunged~!

I bought these lil' fake gourds at Walmart yesterday for .97 each!

The colors on them were bright so I wanted to tone them

down a bit by ~Grunging~ them with a little Brown Shoe Polish!

All's you have to do is rub some Brown Shoe Polish on them!

If they are not ~Grungy~ enough for you then go ahead and give them

another coat until you get the degree of ~Grunging~ that you like!

Here is a bucket that I wanted to fill with some pine

to put in our log cabin room!

This bucket started out silver, then I gave it a couple coats

of American Accents Soft Wheat Spray Paint!

Then I finished it off with a coat of Brown Shoe Polish!

I ~Love~ the way that this bucket turned out!

It looks like an old bucket now, instead of something that just came off the shelf!

Hi, Ladies!

I had a ~Wonderful~ surprise come in the mail today!

It was a ~Darling~ ***NEW*** lil' Mouse

from my dear friend Carol, of Buttermilk Creek Farm!

Carol made this lil' Mouse for our new log cabin room!

She knew that I had an "Amish" quilt on the bed

so she put this ~Darling~ lil' Mouse in an olde Amish

Toddler's Shoe!

I ~Love~ the detail work that Carol puts in all of

her lil' Creations!

Don't you just ~Love~ the lil' quilt that she's made and

put in the lil' mouse's arm?

I will treasure this lil' mouse, like I have all

of the lil' mice that Carol has sent me,
like this one that she sent me last Fall!

~Grungy~ lil' Tag Tutorial from Old Road Primitives...

Hi, Ladies!

Today, I wanted to share a ~Fun~ way to make those ~Grungy~ lil' Tags!

These tags can be used on your "Prim" crafts, on Christmas packages, they

can be hung on your Christmas trees or in wreaths or garlands!

You are not limited to ~Christmas~ when using these "Darling" lil' Tags!

You can use them in your Fall crafts and decor as well!

You'll start by mixing up some "Prim Stain"!!!

Mix together 1/2 Cup of Hot Water with 4 Tbls. of Instant Coffee!

Dip the tags into the stain!

Lay them flat to dry!

Once the tags are dry you will personalize them with your

~Favorite~ Holiday Sayings!
Or

if they are "Gift" Tags

then you can personalize them with

"To: & From:" and with the names of your gift recipients!

Here is where the ~Fun~ begins...

Get out your favorite "Holiday" rubber stamps

and craft paints!

Paint a little of the craft paint onto your rubber stamp

(of choice) then stamp here and there on the tag!

(I like to stamp along the edges to, so that part

of the design is on the tag and part is off of the tag!)

Let the tags dry well again!

Now, get out some "Brown Shoe Polish" & a stiff paint brush!

Rub the stiff paint brush into the brown shoe polish

and then onto a piece of paper to remove some of the polish!

Now you are ready to "Grunge" your tags!

Focus on the stamped parts

(especially if you are using white paint, as this will tone down any bright colors),

the corners and edges of your Tag!

Tie your "Tags" off with cute little string bows!

The possibilities are endless for these ~Darling~

lil' "Prim" Tags!

They are inexpensive and a ~Fun~ way to dress something up!
(Don't forget to rinse your rubber stamps once you have
finished using them or you won't be a "happy camper" when you need them again!)

~Super/Easy~ Prim Pumpkin Tutorial from Old Road Primitives...

Today, as promised, I wanted to share

my ~Super/Easy Pumpkin Tutorial~ with all of you!

Nothing is easier to make then a pumpkin!

Simply follow the super/easy steps below!

Step #1-Cut or tear a rectangle piece from muslin!
(10" X 20" for one of the pumpkins above!)

Step #2-Fold the rectangle piece in half and sew together

at the sides, leaving a small opening for turning!

Step #3-Gather stitch both the top and bottom closed!

Step #4-Turn the pumpkin right sides out!

Step #5-Stuff the pumpkin liberally with fiberfill stuffing!

Step #6-Hand stitch the opening closed!

Step #7-Wrap three individual pieces of string

tightly around the pumpkin to form the "sections"!
Step #8-Mix equal amounts of burnt orange craft

paint with water. Paint the pumpkin with this mixture!

Step #9-Mix Instant Coffee with hot water for the stain!

Stain the pumpkin! Let it dry!

Step #10-Grunge the pumpkin using brown shoe polish!

Sand lightly to give your pumpkin that great "aged" look!

Finishing-garnish your pumpkin with
a stick stem, leaves & dried goods!!!

Simply change the size of your rectangle

to change the size of your pumpkins!
Once you get started you'll want to make
a whole ~Pumpkin Patch~!!!

You may also want to include a "Grungy lil' t-Light"
in your ~Pumpkin Patch~!

8/6/2011-I got asked a really great question about his ~Pumpkin Tutorial~
that I wanted to share with all of you!
Linda asked - "Is there a reason u leave an opening on
the side for stuffing instead of stuffing from the top b4 gathering?"
My answer to that was - "
"You can do it either way but if you "stuff and gather" then

the gather part is on the outside of the pumpkin rather

then tuck down on the inside of the pumpkin!"

However, this is not a big issue if you are going to

garnish your pumpkin with leaves and things!!!

I say the choice is up to you...
which ever way you find the easiest!!!

Yesterday, while shopping in Walmart, I ran into

an older lady (Thelma) that used to work in the Fabric

Section of Walmart and she was telling me that she heard

that most Walmarts are bringing back their Fabrics & Sewing Sections!

She did say that they won't be as large as before but she believed that

they were going to be carrying the basic fabrics like Muslin,

Osnaburg and Burlap!

She told me that they were working on our store as we spoke,

so, I ran back to the craft section and low and behold she was right!

It looks like fabrics are coming back in!

I haven't heard anything on whether they will be carrying

"Morning Glory" Fiberfill Stuffing yet but I will

find out soon and I will let you all know!

So, hopefully Thelma was right, hopefully the Fabric

Section is coming back to a Walmart near you!

NEW ~Christmas in July~ Christmas Pattern from ORP...

I couldn't let July go by with out

releasing a ***NEW*** Christmas Pattern!!!

This new pattern is called...~Country Christmas~ Poinsettias!

This is a super easy pattern, great for the beginning crafter!

You can make two different sized Poinsettias

from this pattern!

These Poinsettias would look great in an arrangement,

on a wreath or garland, on a Christmas Tree or

on Christmas packages!

You'll also learn how to give them that grungy

look for those of you who like that look!

"The Simple Way to Grunge (or Rust) t-Lights, Candles and Tin Cans Tutorial" from ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

Today, I'm going to share with all of you how

to Grunge (or give items that ~Rusty~ Look)!

This is ORP's Super/Easy way to ~Grunge~!

You all know how I ~Love~ Spray Paint, right?

Yep, that's part of my secret for Super/Easy Grunging!
The other part of my secret is Spray-on Adhesive Glue!

Simply spray paint your item (t-light, candle or tin can) to be grunged

with either black or brown spray paint!

If you are spraying a battery operated t-Light be sure

to cover the light bulb with a piece of foil first!!!

You don't even have to wait for the paint to dry...

***sprinkle your item with dry cinnamon!

Give the dry cinnamon a light coat of Spray-on Adhesive Glue!***

Do steps from *** to *** as many times as you need to,

to get the Grungy or Rusty look that you like!

I usually, do that step twice because I
like it when some of the spray paint shows through!
Let your item dry really well before touching it!
***Please Note***...you can use a spray-on sealer instead
of the spray-on glue if you would like!!!

That's it, now go have ***Fun***!

It's time to start getting ready for those Craft Shows!

Pricing your items for a Craft Show...

I get asked all the time how

to price an item for a Craft Show!

First, I say keep track of all of the

costs that you have in an item!

Example...if you purchased 1 yd of Muslin for $3.00

and you know that you used 1/4 of a yard

to make your item, then you can figure

that you paid .75 for the muslin that you used

on that particular item!

Keep a running total of all supplies...

Fabric=

Fiberfill Stuffing=

Rusty Craft Wire=

Rusty Bells=

Dried Sweet Annie=

Some items like Fiberfill Stuffing

you just have to take a guess at!

Once you come up with a total of the

supplies that you have in your item

then I generally tell people to double the

total supplies costs!

So, let's say that I had $5.00 in my item,

then I would sell my item for $10.00!

However, you will also want to take any commissions

or selling fees into consideration, go ahead

and add these fees to the total of your item!

Let's say that you are renting a booth for $10.00,

then I would add .50 to $1.00 to each item to help

recover the booth rent!

This is my basic way to figure the price of

an item!

Total Costs of Supplies

Double Total Costs of Supplies

Then add any extra selling fees

HOWEVER...

There are a few exceptions to this rule...

let's say that you have a ragdoll that you have 15 hours

of labor intensive (detail) work into
then go ahead an add some extra $

to the total for your time!

Typically, I would add $1.00 or $3.00 per hour

for any labor intensive item!

Let's say that I have $15.00 for total supplies

in my ragdoll, I would double the supplies to $30.00
and then add the extra $ for the labor intensive work!

I would probably start this ragdoll out at

anywhere from $45.00 to $75.00!

When pricing your items you have to keep in mind that prices for

handmade items vary in different parts of the country!
So, you kind of have to judge that by where you live!

Remember ladies, you can always go down in price!

If you are doing a two day Craft Show and your

items aren't selling very well then go ahead

and mark your items down on the second day,
unless you have more Craft Shows in the future
or you don't care if you sit on any unsold items!
I prefer to NOT store any items if I don't have to!
I hope that this helps those of you who are struggling
with pricing your Craft Show items!

Gotta ~Love~ Spray Paint & Shoe Polish...

Today, I'm going to share with all of you my ~Love~

for Spray Paint and Shoe Polish!

You can change the look of something in

seconds with a fresh coat of Spray Paint!

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a couple

of these little buckets at Hobby Lobby for $5.00 each!

(They were 50% off!)

Here is what one of them looked like before

it's new make-over!

Here is what it looked like after it's fresh coat of

"American Accents" RUST-OLEUM Spray Paint!

I keep several different colors of this Spray Paint on hand!

I sprayed this particular bucket in "Honey"!

I like to give my items a little "Primitive" or "Rustic" look
with a light rub down of Brown Shoe Polish!

After giving my bucket a light rub down

with the Brown Shoe Polish it now looks like this...

A little make-over like this can be done in no time at all!

~Primn'~ Doilies Another Fun Tutorial from ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

I hope that all of your are having a great Monday!

Today, I wanted to share another ***Fun*** lil' tutorial with all of you!

This tutorial is on ~Primn'~ Doilies!

I love to use doilies in my decorating but feel like the old pure white

doilies are out and these 'Primmed' or coffee stained doilies are in!

These are so easy to do!

Simply mix 1 Cup of HOT water with 4 Tbls. Instant Coffee!

(This will stain approximately two to three medium sized doilies!)

Dip the doily in the stain mixture!

Squeeze the excess stain out!

Remember...just like anything that you are staining

the more stain that you leave on your item the

'grungier' it will be, so I squeeze extra hard because

I don't care for the extreme grunge look!

Lay the doily out flat on some wax paper, on the counter!

Here again, I remove even more stain by dabbing the

doily with some dry paper towels!

Let the doily lay flat until it is dry!

Now it is ready to be used with your ~Prim~ decor!

I like to use them with my ~Prim~ lighting!

Please Note...I purchase my doilies at JoAnn's Fabrics for
fairly reasonable prices!
&
A lot of times you can pick them up at Yard Sales for just
a quarter or two!

~Primn'~ Sunflowers FUN Tutorial from ORP...

Hi, Ladies!

I know that it isn't quite "Sunflower Season" yet but

I happen to ~Love~ Sunflowers so, I keep them up year round

in our ~Country Kitchen~ along with a lot of Chickens and Berries!

All three make a great combination!

A dear friend of ours gave us this ~Darling~ vase for

our 30th Anniversary last month, so I decided to stick

some of my ~Prim~ Sunflowers & Berries in the vase!

I wanted to share my ~Sunflower Primn'~ Technique with all of you!
If you look close at the sunflowers in the photo above you will be able to see
how the coffee stain settles in the tips of the flower petals!
This gives the Sunflowers a really ***Great*** Prim look!
Please Note...you can use this technique on any flowers!

OK...here we go!
This is soooo easy!
Simply dip your sunflowers or flowers, stems and leaves into the
stain recipe below and hang them upside down on a clothesline
or line to dry! You must hang them upside down though to
get that ***Great*** prim look!

Stain Recipe-

Mix ½ cup hot water with 2 Tbls. Instant Coffee. Please Note…this coffee stain will stain anything that it gets on, so please be careful when staining things. The more stain that you leave on your items, the grungier they will be. You can remove some of the stain by dabbing your item with dry paper towels before drying.

If you would to make a Sunflower arrangement then simply

stick your Sunflowers, stems and leaves along with some

dried German Statice or Sweet Annie and some red berries

into an old bucket, vase or basket and walla you

have a ~Darling~ Prim Sunflower Arrangement!

Something I feel I must share....

I have a story that I would like to share with all of you!

Back in November...November 28th to be exact

my nephew, niece and her boyfriend were traveling

back to Salt Lake after coming home to Idaho

for Thanksgiving weekend.

My niece's boyfriend was driving the car.

They were a couple hours outside of Boise, on the

freeway, when they hit black ice and

their car slid out into the medium of the freeway.

My nephew (who was only 22) did what most guys

would do, he got out of the car to get their

car unstuck, when he was hit from behind from

another vehicle that was sliding out of control.

Sadly enough, my nephew was taken from us that day in

just a blink of an eye.

The reason I'm telling this story is because this

same scenario played out on the freeway

(only on the Oregon side this time) a few days ago and

and young girl was killed.

Their vehicle had also slid on ice and then they

were hit by a semi, all five people in the vehicle survived

the crash and got out of their vehicle.

They were standing against the guardrail by their

vehicle, when once again, another vehicle sliding out of

control hit all five people and another young life

was taken again.

The Idaho State Police say that if you are put in this situation

you should stay in your car, call the authorities and wait

until they can take control of the situation.

Please, please share my family's story with your loved

ones and children so that if they are ever put in this

situation they will know what to do!

I'm hoping that in telling my family's story

I can save someone's precious life.

I decided to do another ***Free*** download!

This ***Free*** download is for Old Road Primitives
~Christmas Name Tags~!
Finish your Holiday table off with these
~Darling~ name tags!
Please click HERE to download!
This file is a Microsoft Word file so that
you can personalize these name tags with your guests names!
After you have downloaded this file, place your cursor
on the "Name Here" and left click once!
From there you will be able to personalize
each name, you can even change the font style or color
if you would like!

Once you have personalized these name tags, go ahead and print this file!
Fold the paper over just above the top of each name tag!
Cut the name tags out with the scissors of your choice!
Punch two holes near the top with a hole punch!
Place a matching ribbon through the holes and
tie off into a ~Cute~ bows!
Please Note...you can print these name tags
on regular printer paper but they do stand
a little better when printed on card stock!

I thought that I would add this simple Fall Wreath tutorial
from "Saving the Family Money" website to this posting!

This gal purchased a used grapevine wreath for .99 from a second hand store,
took it home, tore it apart, washed it, dried it and then
started having fun! What a great way to recycle!
She also purchased some of those plastic gourds or pumpkins
from the dollar store and gave them a shot of spray paint for a whole
new look! Oh boy, right up my alley! :)

Carol's Rusting Recipe...

I get asked all the time where I purchase
the rusty square head nails that I use for my mice arms and feet, so
I thought that I would share this Rusting Recipe with you!
This recipe is from Carol, of Buttermilk Creek Farm!
Carol makes the ~Cutest~ mice and was the inspiration for my mice patterns!
I've used a couple of different rusting recipes over the years but I like this recipe
the best because there is no bleach and it is less toxic!

Carol's Rusting Recipe...

Supplies:

1 Pint Hydrogen Peroxide

¼ Cup White Vinegar

2 Tbls. Salt

Nails (Square Head Masonry Nails-from Home DePot)

Old Bowl (keep bowl for rusting)

Old Baking Sheet

Place the first three ingredients in an old bowl; mix well. Add the nails. Set the old bowl onto an old baking sheet (with sides) as this mixture will rise and may run over the sides of the bowl. Let the bowl set for approximately 24 hours. After 24 hours, drain the bowl. Place the nails onto an old baking sheet to dry. I like to set the baking sheet out in the sun on a hot day. The nails won't look very rusty until they dry. Please keep this rusting recipe out of reach of small children and away from anything that you don't want to rust! It will stain whatever it gets on!

The Lazy Dayz of Summer...

Is there such a thing as "the lazy dayz of summer"?

I find myself busier then ever during summer!
Summer is my favorite time of year!
I love all the things that summer brings...
lawn & garden work, flower beds, birds, ice tea on the porch, picnics,
spending time in the mountains, fishing, riding our ATV's,
camping trips, going through old cabins and anything that includes my family!
If I ever get a "lazy day" moment, I love nothing more
then to spread a blanket out and lay under our oak tree!

I like to tone things down by coffee staining them!
Today I'm coffee staining a couple of sunflowers for my up and coming article
in the ***NEW*** Down the Primitive Path Online Magazine!
The first ***FALL*** edition will be ready for download on August 1st!

This new online magazine will be full of crafting tips, tricks and ideas!

Today, I wanted to share my coffee staining recipe with you!
If you are going to be staining something large like pillows then you
will want to make a larger batch!
Simply mix 2 Cups of HOT water with 1/2 Cup of Instant Coffee!
I use the cheapest coffee that I can find!
Once you have stained your item or items you may want to
dab some of the extra stain off with some dry paper towels!
The more stain that you leave on an item the more grungier your item will be!
Once your item or items are stained then hang them on a clothesline to dry!
Warning...this stain will stain anything that it gets on
like clothing, furniture, sidewalks etc., so please be careful when staining!
I like to hang my flowers upside down on the clothesline to dry
because the stain will settle in the tips of the pettles for a great prim look!
See the Sunflowers photo above!
However, this look isn't so great on other items, so I periodically go out and dab
the extra stain from the lowest point of the item where the stain settles while it is drying!
Once your items are dry, don't forget to wipe down your clothes line to remove any stain!

~Olde Sunflower~ Arrangement...

Beings it was such a beautiful day here yesterday,
I decided to take some silk sunflowers (ones that I had leftover from my ~Summer Thyme~ Sunflower Arrangement Pattern)
outside to give them that great ~Prim- look!
Floral arranging is probably one of my first loves and when I
give them that ~Prim~ look then I love them even more!
Anyways, I threw those ~Primmed~ sunflowers in this grungy
olde bucket that I have sitting on our dining room table!
I added a few sprigs of dried grasses and German Statice
and walla, I have a darling ~Prim~ Sunflower Arrangement!
I like to change the arrangements in this olde bucket with
each season, so I didn't glue any foam to the bottom of it!
I just simply placed the sunflowers and dried goods in the olde bucket!

Safety Pins (Nickel)

Old Bowl

Old Baking Sheet

Place safety pins in an old bowl! Barely cover the safety pins with equal amounts of vinegar and peroxide. Sprinkle with liberal amounts of salt. Let sit, out of reach of children and pets, for approximately 24 hours. Drain. Spread safety pins onto old baking sheet. Set out in the sun to dry.
